Visom Digital API's Distributor in Brazil

API (Automated Processes, Inc.) appointed this month Visom Digital as Brazil's exclusive API distributor.

"For most distributors a line like API is a gem to be catered to with great consideration of its tradition," declared de Andrade.

Visom's repertoire of clients includes EMI, Universal, Warner Music Group, Paris Films, Sony DADC, Joao Bosco, Rita Lee, Maria Bethania, Ney Matogrosso and Ritchie Outravez.

API 1608 Makes Crew Happy

Crew Studios opened with a bang this month, sporting a sparkling new API 1608. The console was custom ordered with 8 550a 3-band Eq's and 4 560 ten-band graphic Eq's. The 1608 joins forces with the Vancouver, British Columbia studio's Avid D-Control to provide artists with seamless analog/digital recording and mixing.

"It really is the ultimate front end for any digital recording medium," Head Engineer Mike Cashin wrote of the API 1608.

API 1608 goes 48 at 77

Brett Mulzer, the proud owner of a specially designed, first ever 48 channel API 1608, broke in the console this month when he launched 77 Recording Studio in Evansville, IN. The 1608 is 77's crowning mixing glory, standing alongside a host of other analog and digital equipment.

"We use almost exclusively analog gear for mixing," Mulzer said. "Worlds better than anything in digital."

API participates in another Messe

Western Europe threw its annual Musikmesse extravaganza last month and API happily grooved to the beat. The largest music equipment tradeshow in Europe celebrated the industry with live entertainment, a vintage and rare equipment show and a slew of vendor and manufacturer exhibits. Wes Maebe, a recording engineer from England and an avid API fan demo'd the 1608 on display.

"I think this has become the show for Western Europe," said Dan Zimbelman, API Director of Sales and Marketing.

API Wows at AES Student Summit

Attendees to the Sixth Annual Central Region AES Student Summit got a real treat last week when API displayed and demonstrated some of its equipment. The conference, sponsored by Webster University, brought students, vendors, manufacturers and audio professionals together for panel discussions, exhibitions and live studio sessions. A custom-made API listening station allowed AES Summit attendees to listen to their choice of any of several audio tracks through any of the displayed equipment. An API A2D, lunchbox®, and JDK EQ and Compressor were all available for comparison. Jordan Shirks, API's tech representative to the show, reports that many of the students hope to soon have API equipment of their own.

Wisseloord Studios Throws Grand Re-Opening Party

Historic Wisseloord Studios in the Netherlands threw a grand re-opening bash March 25. The party featured performances by Ilse de Lange, Wisseloord's house band The Dudes and Ricardo Burgrust. Along with Dan Zimbelman, API Director of Sales and Marketing and Gordon Smart, API Managing Director, producers, engineers and musicians from around the globe dropped in to wish Wisseloord great success and admire the studio's new 48 channel API Vision console.

The Vision enables Wisseloord clients to mix in stereo and surround sound. Wisseloord integrated API's Vision into an array of analog and digital equipment from industry-leading manufacturers. The wealth of options Wisseloord's artists will enjoy showcases the re-opened studio's devotion to forward-thinking and rich tradition.

"This facility sets a new world standard," said Zimbelman.

Wisseloord announced in 2010 plans to restore the studio to its former glory. Since its inception in 1978, Wisseloord has played host to legendary stars, completing projects for performers such as Elton John, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Tina Turner and U2.
