API Bids Farewell to Summer Interns

This week we said "goodbye" to both of our hard-working API summer interns. Nick Choma, a student at American University, and Nick Haring, a student at the University of Memphis, spent the majority of their summer with us alternating between Production and the API Lab. Both "Nick 1" and "Nick 2" (as we called them) were able to hone their soldering, assembly, testing and troubleshooting skills, while working alongside some of the best and most knowledgeable audio people in the business. They return to college with an expanded insight into what audio manufacturing is all about. They were both given an "Honorary API Employee Award" at the end of their time with us.

API Visits Singapore Polytechnic

Even though we spent long days and short nights in the Asia Pacific region attending the Broadcast Asia and PALME India trade shows, we managed to squeeze in time to visit The School of Media and Infocomm Technology at Singapore Polytechnic. API Sales Representative Mark Seman joined Singapore Polytechnic's Senior Lecturer Neelesh J. Bhatia and Director Chad Batchelor to discuss the importance of analog audio in today's music industry. Talking points ranged from how to breathe life into a mix, how the analog recording process differs from the digital recording process and how API differs from other analog equipment. After the lectures, Mark gave a demonstration of API's renowned Channel Strip and had a Q&A session with students. It was a fantastic time and we hope to visit again in the future.

Studio 270 Console Commissioned

Back in November, Montréal-based recording facility Studio 270 purchased a new, 48-channel API Legacy Plus console — the first Legacy to come equipped with API Vision automation. Over the next several months, the API crew was hard at work constructing and testing the console until everything was perfect. Our expert commissioning team recently finished the process when they took a trip up to Studio 270 to deliver and install the console. The Canadian studio plans to officially reopen this September. We wish the team at Studio 270 nothing but the best in their upcoming projects!

API Announces Winners of 4th Annual Visionary Scholarship

Congratulations are in order to the winners of this year's API Visionary Scholarship awards!

The API Visionary Scholarship is available to students enrolled at universities and schools that prominently feature the API Vision console, the API Legacy Plus console or API's 1608 console as a cornerstone of their students' education. After much careful deliberation we have selected our winners. Our sincere thanks to all those who submitted applications for this year's awards.

Elton Charles – Berklee College of Music
Nicholas Nagurka – University of Michigan

Manifold Recording and API Vision featured in MIX

Ever since Manifold Recording decided to place an API Vision console in its studio, we've been keeping ourselves updated on the premier facility's news. This month, Manifold Recording and its Vision landed the cover of MIX magazine! In the article, which is posted in full on MIX Online, studio co-owner Michael Tiemann and studio designer Wes Lachot discuss everything from Manifold Recording's musical philosophy to its construction process. Tiemann told MIX that API, "...produced a topology, a circuitry and a quality that you can listen to, and say, 'That is the sound." Check out the full story here.

KT Tunstall chooses API

It's well-known that numerous professional musicians consistently turn to API to provide that warm, analog sound to their creative projects. One such musician is singer-songwriter KT Tunstall. In a testimonial for API, Tunstall discusses some of the reasons why she picked the API 1608. Check it out!
