Closing Time's "Legacy"

You probably know Semisonic's 1998 hit "Closing Time," but you might not know that the song was largely tracked on an API Legacy console. Recording sessions for Semisonic's album Feeling Strangely Fine took place at Seedy Underbelly Studio in Minneapolis, MN. Producer/Engineer Nick Launay recorded "Closing Time's" drum, bass, and piano through the studio's Legacy console, relying on the classic sound of API's 550b 4-band EQs. 20 years later, "Closing Time" is still heard in countless films, television shows, commercials, and sporting events around the world. How appropriate that a song tracked on the Legacy should have its own special legacy. Read more about the history and recording of Semisonic's "Closing Time" from Mix magazine.
